Hello Margaret
Not sure if these resources are a little out of scope as they mostly cover
accessible assessment from an e-learning perspective, but you may be able
to glean some useful tips and further references.
* Accessible e-Assessment: Issues and Experiences -
http://www.cetis.ac.uk/members/accessibility/meetings/2006/sig14/sharonhtml
. A brief overview of the technical, pedagogical, strategic, and practical
areas in e-assessment that need to be considered.
* ALERT (Accessibility in Learning Environments and Related Technologies)
Guidelines - Assessment Through a VLE -
http://www.dur.ac.uk/alert/guidelines.htm. These guidelines give
recommendations on how best to include accessibility when using VLEs
(Virtual Learning Environments). They concentrate on the pedagogical,
practical, and strategic aspects of VLE accessibility.
* TechDis e-Assessment Staff Pack -
http://www.techdis.ac.uk/resources/sites/staffpacks/Staff%20Packs/E-
Assessment/index.xml. "These training materials consider the benefits of
assessing online and draw out the accessibility issues, problems and
solutions associated with e-Assessment".
* The DEMOS Project - http://jarmin.com/demos/. The DEMOS project has
developed an online learning package aimed specifically at academic staff,
which examines the issues faced by disabled students in HE (Higher
Education). There is a section on assessment -
http://jarmin.com/demos/course/assessment/resources.html, which includes a
training module and links to online and offline resources.
* Speech Recognition and Exams (Discussion) -
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?A1=ind0603&L=tech-dis and
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?A1=ind0604&L=tech-dis. There
was a discussion on the use of screen readers in exams earlier this year
on one of the Accessibility discussion lists, which you might interesting.
Best Regards
Sharon.
