Hi Vin,

Louise's views are valid, but with regard to the planning appplication, did
the developers submit a Design and Access Statement at the same time? It has
been a requirement  since 10 August that planning appplications must be
accompanied by a Design and Access Statement setting out how the developer
is addressing access issues. Might be a good idea to check this with the
local planning authority.

Hi Vin,

You may not be able to object to the planning application (though its worth
a try), however, if this is a new build all first and second floor
facilities should be accessible via a full passenger lift under Part M of
the Building Regulations so this should get picked up when a Building
Regulations submission is made.  If the applicant fails to show lift
provision at the Planning stage they may well find at Building Regulations
that they are made to install a lift which in turn could affect the Planning
Permission if for example the building is not big enough to install a lift,
this could result in the applicant having to re-apply for Planning
permission to incorporate the extra space for the lift.  So, it's in their
best interests in the long run!
