Does anyone know of any guidance regarding the height of barriers on
pedestrian walkways?
The barriers in question are of a very simple hoop design, laid out in a
chicane, to prevent cars and motorbike going down a path, but allowing
pedestrians and wheelchairs to pass.
A colleague has queried whether there is a minimum / maximum height for
the barriers. I know they shouldn't be designed so that a guide dog can
walk underneath and lead its owner into the barrier, and they shouldn't be
so low that they someone can miss them and walk into them. However, I
can't find any guidance as to actual recommended heights. I don't know
what height the barriers have been installed at, but apparently someone
has complained that a child has cycled underneath and hit their head.
Thanks.
