Hi Liz
I'm always on the lookout for new recruits to our network -I'll be running some user forums in September for the next design Challenge and it would be great if you could pass my details on. I'm in Japan at the moment on work using a borrowed computer but once I can link mine up I'll send you the details.
Kindest regards
Julia

Hi Julia
Thanks with interest details below. do you/designers ever use the 'Accessability' Groups in the YK? These are voluntary run for the impaired by the impared and for instance the Lincoln (which I belong) often works alongside architects, designers, local Councils etc. Liz East 'Accessability Lincoln'

  Dear All
We are not using them for Disability Equality training - they are used in design projects as one tool among many, foremost of which is real live disabled people working as design partners with the design team from the very beginning. Designers need a range of hands-on stimuli and sim specs are really useful in that regard. Designers are also text-aversive as so many of them are dyslexic (25% at the RCA) so let them play.

If you would like to see the results of these projects check out our website and the DBA Inclusive Design Challenge (http://www.hhrc.rca.ac.uk/events/DBAChallenge/index.html) and read all about them in Challenge - the publication we put out to document the collaboration.(http://www.hhrc.rca.ac.uk/programmes/IBRCA/challenge.html)

If anyone would like to take part in the user forums connected with the next Design Challenge, please do get in touch.
  Kindest regards
  Julia

I thought ‘sim specs’ were no longer used because it was recognised they do little for equality rather they manage to reinforce a number of myths and stereotypes. I thought this had been discussed previously on the list?

The RNIB shop in Judd St used to sell them. Not sure about now though!
