Hi Flick
Hello Flick
Think you've hit on an important point when you say that we are at the
beginning of mainstreaming access issues into planning, for which nothing
will be perfect, but with an iterative and listening process, it possibly
can be achieved, hence we were already assured that you would be in touch
with CABE.
Though .... take care and don't work too hard Flick
Rita

Thanks Marcus!
In case anyone felt I was a bit OTT, be assured I'm in touch with
CABE and hope that anything we come up with will be complementary to
the CABE guidance which looks very good on the design side.
Will post some comments later in the week. A major omission in the
CABE and DCLG guidance seems to me to be the lack of reference to
nationally and locally recognised access standards and the
application of accessibility to most of the elements (other than
landscaping and transport, OK with a few other issues scattered
around, but not integrated into the whole).
I've also had some discussions with the Urban Design Group who are
still writing their publication (referred to in the CABE guidance)
and discussed a few issues relating to Local Development Frameworks
that might be useful as it seems we are very much at the beginning of
the process of mainstreaming access issues into all planning
strategies and frameworks, e.g. guidance on access policies,
Sustainability Appraisals and SCIs as well as generally consulting
with disabled people.
Best wishes
Flick
