Hi everyone,
First, I just need to explain by absence from the mailing list! I
discovered I had cancer in January and have spent the last few months
dealing with all the medical and other things associated with that!
However, I'm beginning to feel much better now and as you all know
have taken a special interest in work around access statements.
So was inspired to intervene here, once I had read the new CABE
guidance and to let you know that I am writing some detailed
criticisms for the Planning Advisory Service and CABE as they seem to
be unaware of any of the issues.
It is quite shocking to me to find that not only is there no
understanding of access standards within the document, (just look at
the first 2 images in the booklet!) but that it will take us back
years, in promoting the idea that access is about no more than
"thinking carefully" about access. It completely ignores the key
issues that ought to be integrated or "infused" into the document in
each design element.
I am currently going through the document in some detail to explain
the omissions and errors and the complete lack of commitment to the
social model of disability and if anyone would like to add any
comments, that would be very helpful.
I will post a copy of my comments to the list as soon as I have finished it.
I am sure (and hope) this will provoke some discussion but hope you
will forgive me if I don't participate fully in all the discussions
as I am still a bit tired from drug use (legal of course!), surgery
and other things.
All the best to everyone and am still reading all the messages.
PS. good to see you're keeping the flag flying Vin!
