Dear colleagues,
ALL is looking for new members for its German
Committee. The Committee has both real and virtual
meetings (never more than two face-to-face meetings a
year) and expenses to attend meetings are paid by the
Association. The German Committee advises ALL on
current trends in the teaching of German and
contributes to a variety of ALL activities, including
publications, the Language World conference, other
in-service training activities, events for learners,
etc. It liaises with the Goethe Institute and the
German Embassy. Committee members also participate in
ALL Special Interest Groups. Chairs of the Language
Committees are invited to serve on the Executive
Council.
Active participation in this way has real benefits for
committee members and is an excellent way of keeping
up with what’s happening in the world of language
teaching. There is plenty of scope for committee
members to play a very full part in the activities of
ALL. It is an excellent opportunity to develop
relationships, on behalf of ALL, with the key
organizations in language teaching in the UK.
We hope that the new committee will have
representation from teachers of German from different
sectors of education, from primary education through
to lifelong learning. We would be particularly pleased
to welcome colleagues teaching languages in higher
education to the German Committee, as we believe that
close collaboration between schools and universities
is crucial to sustain and enrich language learning in
both sectors.
