ETSC “Best in Europe” Conference 2006: “eSafety that matters”.
Autoworld, Park Cinquantenaire, Brussels 21 – 22 February 2006

The target set by the European Commission to halve annual EU road deaths
by the year 2010 presents a huge challenge but also an enormous
opportunity to put knowledge into practice at international, national
and local levels. Against the background of the Mid-term Review of the
3rd Road Safety Action Programme and with an increasing pressure on
Member States to put road safety high on their agenda, Best in Europe
2006 looks at best practice in eSafety.

Experience has shown that eSafety solutions can contribute to the
success of road safety work, having the potential to save thousands of
lives. However, the road safety community also needs to take into
account that new technology, if poorly designed, can create hazards for
the driver and other road users. Experts of international reputation
will highlight, from experience, the “do’s and don’ts” of eSafety
solutions and will outline the key ingredients of successful
experiences. The principal aim of the conference will therefore be to
identify “eSafety that matters”.

By attending “Best in Europe” 2006, help us increase understanding about
what works and why, and forge new links between professionals across
Europe. Furthermore, through demonstration and discussion of best
practice, encourage policymakers to take the new initiatives needed to
address the death and injury in road crashes – one of the leading causes
of death and hospital admission for EU citizens.
