If you have the FSL library (http://www.fmrib.ox.ac.uk/fsl/) then that
provides pretty easy ways to do both things (albeit from the shell
command line):
i) std of single image:
avwstats image -s
where image can be NiFTI or Analyze or a few other formats.
ii) std across images (trick here is to treat as 4d time series and
get std across time)
avwmerge -t merged image1 image2 ... imageN
avwmaths merged -Tstd stdimage
(NB stdimage will be written in format specified in environment
variable $FSLOUTPUTTYPE)
If this is no help, I'll send you Matlab code, but that will have to
wait until early next week (email me personally to remind me on
Monday)
