Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Cognitive Neuroscience and fMRI
Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics
University of Oxford
Academic-related research staff grade Ia: Salary
in the range £20,044 - £30,002 p.a. on the RSIa scale
A vacancy exists for a postdoctoral research
scientist supported by a collaborative grant from
the VolkswagenStiftung. The position is available
immediately for up to three years to study human
sensory cortical plasticity using a combination
of neuroimaging and psychophysical techniques.
While focusing on standard fMRI methodology, the
position also presents an opportunity to gain
experience in MEG as well as DTI and other
advanced MRI techniques. The work is part of a
larger collaboration with the Universities of
Düsseldorf (Professor Petra Stoerig, Psychology)
and Nijmegen (Professor Peter Hagoort, Institute
for Cognition and Information) to investigate
plasticity in human sensory and higher-order
cerebral cortex, including work on dyslexia and
sensory substitution for the blind. There will be
opportunity for travel to, and periods of work
at, the other centres. The work will be carried
out under the supervision of Dr Kai Thilo and
Professor Colin Blakemore. The ideal candidate
will have a Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related
field, experience in the design and analysis of
fMRI experiments, a proven ability to work
individually, but also as a member of a larger
team, and evidence of independent contributions
to the publication of research findings.
