Hi David:
Are you referring to being able to specify multiple conditions at once? If so here is what you need to do
Set up 3 cell arrays. These will contain the names, onsets and durations of each condition. They
MUST be named: names, onsets and durations. They must all have the same number of cells, which must
be arranged in "columns" (i.e., a 1 x n cell array).
For example let's say I have two conditions- rest and motor. There are 3 blocks of each. I will
specify the onsets and durations in seconds.
names{1,1} = 'rest'
names{1,2} = 'motor'
onsets{1,1} = [0 60 120]
onsets{1,2} = [30 90 150]
durations{1,1} = [30 30 30]
durations{1,2} = [30 30 30]
Then save these variables to a file, which I'll call myFMRITimings
save myFMRITimings names onsets durations.
Now when specifying the design, do not enter in anything under Conditions. Instead select Multiple
Conditions in the batch box (large box on left). Then in the Options box (upper right) click
Specify Files and choose the mat file you just saved (it will be called myFMRITimings.mat). When
you run the design SPM will load this file and fill in the appropriate fields in the design.
Events can be similarly specified by choosing a duration of 0, just like in other versions of SPM.
You can specify user defined regressors too. The regressor can either be a text file or you can
create a variable R (it must be called R) which is q x r in size where q is the number of scans in
the design and r is the number of regressors. This variable is NOT a cell array. All columns must
be the same length. You would save this file just like the one above.
save myRegressors R
Load this by clicking Multiple regressors and specifying the file.
Hope this helps,
Darren

SPMers,
I am trying to create a .mat file with all my timing information to import
into my design. In SPM 2 I could just import it as a .txt file, but SPM5
requires a .mat file. I have followed the instructions in the manual how to
create a .mat file with the timings of the scans, but it is still not
working. Has anyone tried to create a .mat file before to use as their
timing file and then import it into SPM5?
Thanks.
