From what I read there, I guess the AMD Athlon64 with a taylored linux
distribution (I know Ubuntu ships its 64-bit version for free, from
https://shipit.ubuntu.com) would be the fastest solution. And as always,
the more & faster memory, the better...
Other than that, the biggest bottleneck is always disk I/O. A SCSI or
SATA hard disk may save you a lot of time.
