Dear Nick,
1) Check that your installation is complete and including all updates.
2) Check that the base folder of your SPM installation has been added to
your MATLAB search path. Use editpath or addpath in the MATLAB command
window for this and look up the MATLAB documentation for how to make these
changes permanent.
