Matlab 7 can create mat files that are incompatible with Matlab 6.x. In general SPM checks the
matlab version and tries to prevent this. To prevent it in non-spm functions go to
Files->preferences->General->Mat files and select ensure backwards compatibility (-v6). Make sure
each user sets this for themselves if these are multi-user machines. Also any save statements in
functions could be changed to read save('filename','var1','var2',...,'-v6').
for the files that were save incorrectly, open them in matlab 7 and resave them as compatible.

I have matlab 7 and spm2 installed on a non-intel G5 machine.
Recently several students have used the mac setup to reorient images...thus
creating a "mat file"
It appears that these mat files are unreadable on the PCs where we have
matlab 6.5.
Is this a problem with the matlab version?
If so, is there any easy way to make the mat files written under matlab 7
readable under matlab 6.5...or am i off on the wrong track completely?
Thankyou,
Dianne
