Position as Functional Imaging Scientist
A position as imaging scientist in functional brain imaging under
serotonergic challenges is available within the Lundbeck Foundation Center
for Integrated Molecular Brain Imaging (Cimbi) in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The research in the center focuses on the neural bases of personality
dimensions that predispose individuals to affective and substance use
disorders, with special emphasis on the serotonergic neurotransmitter
system. Both PET and MRI are employed in studies of human subjects, and
these are complemented with relevant studies using animal models. Advanced
informatics techniques, new tracer compounds, and novel serotonergic
challenge paradigms are also developed within the center. The work venues
span several institutions in Copenhagen as well as several collaborating
laboratories in Europe and the U.S.
Within Cimbi, a position as imaging scientist is available for individuals
interested in participating in functional MRI studies to be conducted at
the Danish Research Centre for Magnetic Resonance (DRCMR) at Copenhagen
University Hospital, Hvidovre (www.drcmr.dk). These studies seek brain
functional correlates of personality traits and serotonin system function,
and of relevant genetic polymorphisms and behavioral biases. Experience
with fMRI methods, and relevant cognitive neuroscience training, are
desirable. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of
neuroscientists, cognitive scientists, chemists, MR physicists, and
computer scientists/mathematicians and will participate in the design,
execution, and analysis of the MRI studies within the Center.
MRI studies will complement studies of neuroreceptor binding in the same
individuals and thus will permit cross-modality modeling of the neural
bases of personality traits such as impulsivity and persistent anxiety. A
Ph.D. in a relevant discipline is required. Skills and experience with
image analysis platforms and related software systems (such as SPM, AFNI,
BrainVoyager, EPRIME, etc), prior publication of brain mapping
experiments, strong biostatistical and computing skills (and experience
with UNIX, C/C++, MATLAB, etc.), doctoral work in cognitive neuroscience
or neuropsychiatry, and neuropharmacological expertise are all desirable
qualifications but are not absolutely required.
The position is available for a duration of 2 – 5 years and will be
supervised by professors Olaf B. Paulson and Terry L. Jernigan, DRCMR.
Applications should include
