Well, as it is called voxel-based morphometry, the easy way in spm is to
do it voxelwise. If this does not work you could specify your region by
defining an appropriate mask and then mask all (modulated gm) images
accordingly. The sum of voxel intensities in this mask can then be
considered to reflect the gray matter volume within this mask and can be
correlated "by hand" with all measures you are interested in.
