Hi David,
in addition to Darren's suggestion, you might want to check whether you
unpacked the spm archive correctly. I faintly remember seeing this error
message before when a colleague of mine tried to install SPM5 on a Windows
machine. When you use Winzip to extract the .tar.gz file you downloaded
from the FIL, you have to use the Extract Button (NO Drag 'n' Drop from the
Winzip Window). Only the Extract Button will preserve the Directory
structure in the archive which is needed to properly run SPM5.
