I am using a "Novel versus Familiar" paradigm to study memory
encoding with two types of stimuli (A & B). Type A stimuli are arousing
and type B stimuli are not arousing. Out of these 4 conditions, I want to
specifically examine the novel arousing effect of type A stimuli. In
order to do this, I would like to compare two contrasts:
(new type A stimuli - old type A stimuli) - (new type B stimuli - old type B stimuli)
OR
contrast 1 - contrast 2
Ultimately, this will be done on a group level, but I would like to
be able to examine this on a single subject level in order to see if my
paradigm is having the anticipated effect. What is the best way to do this? Would I use exclusive masking to see what voxels remain when I mask contrast 1 by contrast 2? I would be appreciative if you could suggest the best approach to this problem.
