Hi,
Many apologies for the off-topic post.
I am writing to ask if there would be interest the community in a
database application for managing a scanner facility. At the moment
we are beginning to write an application that will book scanning
slots, and that will manage keeping track of ethics approvals,
volunteer recruitment and follow up, scanner training courses.
This will be a web-based application with the full range of access
controls based on standard tools such as MySQL, so that authorized
users can view data and make changes using only a web browser and an
internet connection.
We realize that some parts of this application will need to be
tailored to your own site. We therefore plan to use an open-source
license and a high-level programming language (python) to make it
easier to modify and contribute to. For units wanting further
development or tailoring, we suggest a 'stakeholder' model, in which
units that need development work or rely on the application can
contribute to the cost of its development and support.
Could I ask - are there any of you who would be interested in this
type of application? If so, how important would it be that this
application is open-source? I ask because we will have to make a
strong argument for our organization to agree to open-source.
Best,
Matthew
