The candidate will be appointed under the terms of a VENI grant from the
Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) for functional MRI
research on brain mechanisms involved in human memory consolidation
processes. Particular attention will be paid to the acquisition and
consolidation of procedural memories. In addition to experimental research,
data analysis will take a prominent place. The project is set in a dynamic
research environment offering a range of techniques including transcranial
magnetic stimulation and in vivo ensemble recordings.
Candidate must hold a Master’s degree in Cognitive Sciences or Neuroscience.
A strong computer programming background and experience with fMRI analysis
packages (SPM, FSL, AFNI) will be considered an advantage.

The appointment will be on a temporary basis for a maximum period of four
years (one year plus a further three years after a positive evaluation) and
should lead to a dissertation.
An educational plan will be drafted that includes the attendance of courses
and national and international meetings. The PhD student will be expected to
assist in the teaching of undergraduates.
Based on a full-time appointment (38 hours per week), the gross monthly
salary will range from € 1,933 in the first year and € 2,472 in the final
year, according to the Dutch salary scales for PhD students.
