Dear All,
following up Philip Kohn's mail from 3 May, I just received a statement from
The MathWorks, providing now even a system-level remedy for the ReML
estimation problem already described by several list members (e.g., Juanjo
Lull (24 Feb), Nicholas Walsh (24 Feb), Hannah Faye (8 Mar), Nicolas Rusch
(14 Mar), Feng Xue (24 Apr), Iole Indovina (24 Apr)):
>After initial investigation this appears to be an error in the BLAS
>version MATLAB is using. BLAS stands for Basic Linear Algebra
>Subroutines. It provides the key foundations for performing mathematical
>computations in MATLAB. I believe our first try at resolving this issue
>should be to try a different version of BLAS on your machine. More
>information on BLAS and specific information on how to change your BLAS
>version can be found on our website at:

>Please try some other versions of BLAS and let me know if the problem
>persists.
The link gives you the details required for different platforms. For my
system (PC, Pentium 4, Linux), I chose the library 'atlas_P4.so', and it
seems to work fine. I hope this will help all of you who had the same problem.
Best regards,
Andreas
