Dear Colleagues,
I have received this -mail from The
Netherlands. Our university offers a Masters,
but not a Masters exclusively for
midwives. Midwives opt for various modules, some
of which are delivered to students of various
disciplines and some to midwives exclusively. I
wonder if some of you might offer an exclusive
Masters for midwives and may be better suited to accommodate this request.
Please communicate directly with Drs.Irma van der
Velden at [log in to unmask]
Many thanks in advance.

>By way of this email I would like to ask you for
>your advise concerning Master Midwifery Education.
>
>My name is Irma van der Velden and I am the
>director of the Master Midwifery Education
>Program at the University of Rotterdam. The
>duration of the Master program in Rotterdam is
>two and a half years. The purpose of this course
>is to offer graduated midwives who work in a
>hospital to obtain their Master degree. This is
>specifically for midwives working in a hospital
>setting, the midwives working in a home based setting can not enrol.
>
>As one of our goals in the training program is
>internationalization of the midwifery
>profession, I am investigating ways for
>international collaboration. My question to you
>is if you would be willing and able to help us
>on this topic. Could you advise us on the
>possibilities for our students (this year 10
>students) to visit the UK, specifically to meet
>with other Master Midwifery students and if
>possible experience the daily work of midwives working in a hospital setting.
>The purpose of the international program for
>Masters-prepared midwifery students is to
>introduce the students to a foreign healthcare
>system as well as the function of midwives.
>
>In October this year we visited Houston, Texas,
>with 5 of our students. In the week days we were
>there we visited two Birth Centres and three
>Hospitals. It was a great experience, however
>the system in the USA is very different to the
>European one. We would prefer an exchange with a
>University with a Master program for midwives.
>
>Thank you very much for considering our request
>and I look forward to hearing from you.
>
>Yours sincerely
