Hi Nicole,
I'm sure Ann Oakley did quite a bit on this. I have one in my data base:
Oakley, A. (1980). Women Confined. Oxford: Martin Robertson.
But I remember reading another, better one, which I think she wrote too 'The
Captured Womb' sometime in the late 1980s. Maybe someone else will have the
reference?
AS an aside: I think it is funny that Nicole is from Bendigo and she has
gone onto an international research list and received two responses from her
local area!

Subject: reference re origins of antenatal care
Hi all,
Does anyone have some good references about the origins of antenatal care,
in particular, what its aims were and what brought it about?
Thank you,
Nicole Carver,
Bendigo,
Australia.
