The University of Nottingham (UK), Academic Division of Midwifery offers midwives with at least two years experience and a degree (or degree equivalence) the opportunity to undertake a Postgraduate Diploma/MSc in Midwifery by a modular pathway. It is available on a full-time or part-time basis and commences in early October each year.
International applicants must present evidence of achievement in a registered English Language assessment prior to course commencement. The preferred assessments are the IELTS or TOEFL Tests. Students who exceed the threshold scores of 6.5 in IELTS and 580 in TOEFL may be admitted to the course
Course Details
The programme aims to enable students to:
Further develop their knowledge of physiological, psychological, cultural, social and epidemiological aspects of midwifery practice in order to critically evaluate care provided to childbearing women with complications of pregnancy or in childbirth.
Study in depth the art and science of midwifery to enhance interprofessional debate thereby advancing midwifery practice.
Consolidate and extend existing knowledge of issues pertaining to the role of teachers of health care professionals.
Consider critically and investigate social policy, economic influences and professional issues and tensions in the education of nurses, midwives and other health care professionals.
Be prepared for the role of lecturer in the higher education environment/the practice educator in the practice environment and able to disseminate their knowledge to benefit students in health care settings.

The course consists of 8 modules from which students take 4 core modules and one optional module. These are:

DM4CAI: Change and Innovation
Optional Modules
DM4ESP: Education Studies for Health Care Practitioners
DM3ANS: Antenatal Screening
DM3CIM: Counselling in Midwifery
DM3ESM: Effective Supervision of Midwives (for those already Supervisors of Midwives)
DM3EON: Examination of the Neonate for Healthcare Practitioners
DM3HDC: High Dependency Care of the Childbearing Woman
DM3IFN: Infant Feeding and Nutrition
DM4DMM: A Dissertation (compulsory for Masters students)
Other modules are added to these options according to demand from our NHS partners.
