INFORMATION SYSTEMS STREAM
Young Operational Research Conference (YOR15) Bath 28th to 30th March 2007
Information systems permeate our daily lives. New technologies are being=
integrated into businesses, with the consequence that we take for granted=
what they are about, and we forget to acknowledge the impacts that they =
make in our organisational lives, in particular in our communication practices. The use of operational research approaches has incorporated =
technologies in different domains (e.g. health, problem structuring methods, decision analysis, defence, government, etc), and we think it is=
time to study these developments from an information systems communicatio= n perspective.
Operational research approaches has also indicated that to limit our eyes=
within the scope of what people normally understand about information systems will not be useful for any information systems practices. This =
perspective has actually suggested looking "out of the box", in which=
sense, our Information Systems stream aims to provide a wider space for t= he discussion of communication issues that respect to various aspects. This =
could be related to issues of culture, power, organisational change, etc.=
We welcome presentations that talking about practical problems which mayb= e non-technical but still within the big boundary. We believe this will hel= p to offer a good understanding for IS in a holistic way.
In our stream, we intend to draw knowledge from academia and industry. W= e aim to allow young practitioners to present their use of technology in OR=
practice, and how it can better serve human communication. We hope to se= e many of you attending this stream. We will include practical workshops i= n the use of new technologies; plenary speakers from different areas; and f= un communication activities!
If you would like to contribute, please email us a title and an abstract =
(up to 200 words) for your presentation which will appear in the conferen= ce handbook no later than 20th of November 2006, or you can register on-line=
at the www.theorsociety.com in the YOR15 section, but please make sure yo= u are in the Information Systems stream.
