Subject: [Histmed] British Library Faith Exhibition
The British Library is preparing an exhibition for summer 2007 about
Judaism, Christianity and Islam, focusing on their sacred books - the
Torah, Christian Bible and Qur'an.
The Wellcome Trust will be hosting a joint public event with the BL,
examining themes around faith and science. Three possible themes have
been
identified:
*Islamic science
An exploration of science (in particular medical science) in the Islamic
world.
*Belief in science
Is science a type of religion? What do scientists believe in? Is faith
necessary for success in science? Invited guests could include
scientists, philosophers and faith leaders.
*Death
How do different faiths deal with death and the end of life. This is
inspired by a supplement from the Lancet a couple of years ago. Speakers
could include leaders from the different faith groups and an atheist
We are looking for possible speakers who might wish to participate in
this event, obviously an historical component is important for us. You
might also wish to suggest alternative themes.
I have an exhibition storyboard produced by the BL if anyone would like
a copy (it's too large to be e.mailed).
