This may be helpful:
In order to teach on an HSE validated first aid at work course trainers must
fulfil the following criteria
1. Either be a nurse or medical practitioner with current and effective
registration ( Or for lay trainers have a current FAW cert and have one for
(I think) more than four years) [This element really hacked off the
paramedic who was the person who came to validate my FAW course as he had to
have a current FAW cert.)
2. Have experience of giving first aid in the workplace
3. hold a teaching or training qualification ( not sure what this means -
some organisations run an extremely short teaching and assessing course for
lay and professional trainers ie a few days duration only). There is no
standard course but if you hold an ENB 998 that would be fine
4. Have experience of, and peer review of, teaching and assessing which is
demonstrated within a portfolio of evidence.
There is a small booklet published by the HSE which elaborates on this and
supplements the guidance on FAW Regs. Sorry I do not have the booklet to
hand but I am sure you could find details from the HSE or the Stationary
Office.
Hope this is helpful
