Jacqui,
Regarding the Physio question -
2 does anyone have a "case of need" for a physio in OH and what should we
be looking for in terms of qualifications/skills/appropriate registration
etc and possibly most important...salary (we have had one approach us
asking £70K!) i understand there is a "body" for OH physios who i am
searching for the number of.
We are an occupational physiotherapy company providing services for
corporates and small companies around the country. The "case of need"
question depends alot on your numbers of employees and the sort of system
you are looking to put in place. Best practice (and our preference) is to
put in an entirely pro-active system for prevention - but this can be
expensive.
is it cheaper to buy the service from a local physio?
A local Physio can be cheaper in the short term but very costly overall. A
recognised company should have advanced systems and be able to provide
everything from treatment and DSE assessments to functional capacity
assessments.
and if we employ and they do accupuncture...who "prescribes" it?
phyios usually only do acupuncture for pain relief and they are the
prescribers and are covered under there acupuncture association.
I would be happy to explain more of the details of musculo-skeletal care in
the work place. Please feel free to get back to me with any questions.

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] service provision
hi all
i am looking at our service provision with a view to further OH expansion.
as i know many of you will have done the sort of things i am looking for
it seems logical to ask.
i have tried a couple of internet searches and not found what i need.
1. has anyone done any evaluation of a smoking cessation in the workplace
either in house or invited from the community. with the liklihood of
legislation next year we are looking at "what should OH do- if anything?
and how much will it cost? and is it worth it? what are the success rates?
etc"
2 does anyone have a "case of need" for a physio in OH and what should we
be looking for in terms of qualifications/skills/appropriate registration
etc and possibly most important...salary (we have had one approach us
asking £70K!) i understand there is a "body" for OH physios who i am
searching for the number of.

and if we employ and they do accupuncture...who "prescribes" it?
(on the subject of prescription...who prescribes the flu vaccine where
there is no OHP?)
3 to the non NHS/government OH nurses....how long do people stay on Long
term absence before their contract is ended...i know this is an "how long
is a piece of string" but i should like to benchmark.
4 are there many OH nurses who want to work 1 or 2 days a week? i am aware
that 3 days is a popular choice.
this is not a tout for CV's or an advert for a job....a simple survey
thanks in anticipation of a cast iron budget proposal for a full time
nurse and full time physio
or a part time nurse and a full time physio and a much higher salary!!
....here's hoping!!
jacqui
