Vacancy: Health Psychologist/Occupational Health Psychologist with the Health and Safety Laboratory (www.hsl.gov.uk) (Agency of the Health and Safety Executive)
Location: Buxton, Derbyshire
Band: Higher Psychologist (Band 4) (Salary: £22,500 approx)
Type of Post: Full time, permanent (future possiblity of fixed term contracts also exists)
Background: We are seeking adaptable, flexible and customer orientated individuals who can engage in a wide range of occupational health psychology issues at HSL. The post will be important to the development of a Centre for Workplace Health and the Work Psychology Section. The ability to spot opportunities to develop our business will be important, as this is a developing area of work. The post offers opportunity to further develop practical research skills with internal and external customers across a variety of projects and to apply health psychology expertise to occupational health issues.
Qualifications: A good honours degree in a relevant subject is essential and a higher degree in health psychology or occupational health psychology is desirable.
Essential Experience:
· Approximately two years relevant experience in the health sector,
research (including undertaking research related course), private
consultancy, or industry.
· Experience of qualitative and quantitative research methods
· A track record of delivering work to clients
· Experience of negotiating work specifications and costs.
Key Responsibilities: Undertake the following in consultation with a senior psychologist or section head:
· Act as a project leader on a wide range or research and support
topics for a variety of customers, directing the work of others and
reporting to the senior psychologist and/or section head.
· Design research methodology, oversee data collection and analysis,
write project reports and papers, and establish regular communication with
customers.
· Negotiate work specifications and costs with clients and manage
project resources (staff and financial) to meet these specifications.
· Help to prepare proposals and costs with clients and manage project
resources (staff and financial) to meet these specifications.
· Help to prepare proposals for research and support work, and develop
opportunities for new work.
· Liase with colleagues in HSL and HSE, and other H&S professionals.
· Present work to customers and at conferences and seminars.
