Hello everyone, my name is Delaney Bucknor (female if you were wondering) and this is my first posting.
I just want some help regarding applying for stage 2 training. I completed my BPS accredited MSc in Health Pychology at Staffs Uni in 2001. I enjoyed the subject but was unsure about its future outside academia in terms of job opportunities and recognition. This lead me to the Clinical Psy route. Three good assistant pychologist posts and 4 application rejections later(yes I know), I have decided to pursue Health once again.
I have done my background work on the current climate, stage 2 courses, application procedures and potential supervisors but I have a problem. It's been 5years and I feel like an outsider and isolated. I don't have health psychology peers for support to answer the following questions.
1)I have identified potential supervisors (and completed a PhD proposal)but how do you approach talking to them before formally applying?
2)How do you go about getting a work placement from an organisation? On my own? via a past supervisor? Don't feel I would be taken seriously. I'm not already in a health related job and Assistant Psychologist Posts have always been 1yr fixed term contracts (finished in Feb)
3)Does the stage 2 training objectives to complete on placement have to be related to the thesis subject?
I know this is a lot but help would be well appreciated. Thanks
