RESEARCH CHAIR IN SOCIAL/APPLIED STATISTICS
DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS
LANCASTER UNIVERSITY
Applications are invited for a Research Chair in Lancaster's RAE 6*
Statistics research group within the Department of Mathematics and
Statistics. The Chair is based in the Centre for Applied Statistics, one
of three sections within the group and will be specifically focused
towards social or applied statistics, and applications with a strong
research portfolio and with particular interests in social statistics will
be particularly welcomed. The successful candidate will be expected to
have an international research reputation, with strong leadership skills,
an excellent publication record and an interest in the application of
statistics to complex data sets arising from substantive problems.
Additionally, applicants should be enthusiastic and motivational teachers.
Lancaster already is one of the largest UK Statistics research groups with
29 academic staff, 14 research associates, 30 research students and 12 MSc
students. A recent, major development for the Department is Lancaster’s
successful bid to HEFCE for a Centre of Excellence in Teaching and
Learning (CETL) in Postgraduate Statistics which will provide substantial
opportunities for research active staff to develop new approaches to
teaching statistics both within the Department and to a wide range of
disciplines at the postgraduate level. The bid provides support staff,
state of the art teaching and learning spaces, and a substantial new
building which forms an extension to the Department.
