On the subject of putting pdf copies of our reports on-line:
I am working mainly on reports for developer-funded sites in the West
Midlands and beyond. When working outside my area (Worcestershire) I have
the perennial problem of accessing unpublished site reports ('Grey
Literature) to make an adequate assessment of the archaeobotanical (or other
environmental) data for that area. I know that there may be numerous 'grey
literature' reports, but few have gone through to publication.
We have tried at Worcestershire County Council to rectify this problem by
putting pdf copies of unpublished sites for the County on-line in the form
of an 'on-line Archaeology library' as follows:
http://worcestershire.whub.org.uk/home/wccindex/archeo_dr_index.htm
<http://worcestershire.whub.org.uk/home/wccindex/archeo_dr_index.htm>
At present there is no facility for searching for those reports with an
environmental content. We are currently working on a searchable on-line
archaeobotanical database which will give direct links through to pdf
reports with an archaeobotanical content. However, in the meantime, if
anyone is interested in searching for these, an environmental bibliography
for both published and unpublished sources for Worcestershire, Herefordshire
and Shropshire is in pdf form see link:
http://worcestershire.whub.org.uk/home/archeo_dr_detail-public?id=466
<http://worcestershire.whub.org.uk/home/archeo_dr_detail-public?id=466>
Only reports for sites in Worcestershire will be in the pdf library. This is
an on-going process with Worcester City sites being uploaded at present. We
think this type of facility may prove to be useful in other counties. Any
feedback would be appreciated.
