Introduction To Regression Models
Faculty: Chris Metcalfe, Sara Brookes, Tim Peters, Jonathan Sterne, Kate
Tilling
Duration: Five days.
Dates: 24th-28th April 2006.
Course aims: To provide an understanding of the statistical principles
behind, and the practical application of, univariable and multivariable
linear and logistic regression in medical, epidemiological and health
services research.
Course outline: Revision of basic methods in a statistical modelling
framework; basic terminology and concepts in modelling (stratified analysis
to control for confounding, interaction, dummy variables); interpretation
of model coefficients; simple and multiple regression and its synonyms
(ANOVA, ANCOVA); odds ratios and relative risks; logistic regression;
analytical strategies.
=================================================================
Analysis Of Longitudinal (Cohort) Studies
Faculty: Jonathan Sterne, Sara Brookes, Chris Metcalfe, Kate Tilling
Duration: Two days.
Dates: 4-5 May 2006.
Course aims: To provide a grounding in statistical concepts and methods for
the analysis of data where individuals are followed over time
Course outline: definition of rates and relation between risks and rates;
manipulating person-time data in Stata using the st commands; analysis of
rates using Mantel-Haenszel methods and Poisson regression; splitting
follow up time to allow for exposures that change with time; introduction
to survival analysis; log rank tests and Cox proportional hazards
regression; graphical displays for survival analysis.
