We have serioulsy considered SharePoint as a Document base VLE, if that
makes sense. We have pulled back from it because it is not designed in
any way for academic/learning use (not a fault of the program, it wasn't
designed with that in mind). Where I got seriously concerned was the
trumpetted selling point that it was tightly integrated with Microsoft
Office. This meant that to get many of the benefits of SharePoint, we
would have to upgrade all of our Office installations. We didn't want to
have to do this and then be tied into future upgrades as forced on us by
any component of the Microsoft system. For this reason we have chosen
"BluesSpheres Create" as our VLE tool box. It is designed for
educational use and isn't integrated with all of our other systems,
which gives us much greater flexibility of choice of software in the
future.

Subject: [VLES] SharePoint
Hi there
I have been through the archives and I can see one or two people are
either using or investigating Microsoft Sharepoint. Can anyone 'share'
with me their reason or reasons for choosing Sharepoint and whether or
not
it has achieved more than they initially thought it would or whether it
has actually gone down the route of being a bit of a damp squib. If you
have integrated it with a proprietary VLE or even just connected it
to one that would be interesting too.
Many thanks
Heather
