SCOTTISH EXECUTIVE DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT ANALYTICAL SERVICES DIVISION:
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FOR POLICY BRIEFING
EVIDENCE BASED POLICY BRIEFINGS: AN OPPORTUNITY TO INFORM THE SCOTTISH
EXECUTIVE STRATGEY FOR SCOTLAND’S AGEING POPULATION.
The Scottish Executive invites expressions of interest from either a small
team of researchers, or an individual researcher to provide a series of
short, thematic and well written briefings to help inform policy around
the Strategy for Scotland's Ageing Population.
The written briefings will be expected to be insightful and
evaluative ‘think pieces’ and will involve analysis of available data
(including research literature and statistical data where appropriate),
whilst linking these to potential implications for policy and practice in
this area. The briefings must be accessible to experts and the general
public. Findings from this work will support the work of the Strategy for
Scotland's Ageing Population Advisory Group and help facilitate an
understanding of the cross cutting nature of policy in this area. This
work will link into the development of a consultation process next year.
Themes for this series of work are yet to be finalised, however, there is
an expectation that the themes will extend beyond traditional ‘care
models’ of older people to consider the positive role which older people
play in modern day Scotland.
Individuals or teams interested in this work, must demonstrate their
ability to gather and analyse significant amounts of data and summarise
this concisely, in a timely manner. They must be able to translate their
meaning to a policy context, drawing out policy implications. They should
also have experience of researching cross cutting social justice issues.
Any background in researching older people and their contribution to wider
society would be very desirable but not essential.
Work would be expected to commence in February 2006 and could continue
until June 2006.

the ‘New Project: Expressions of Interest’ icon.
Only a limited number of contractors will be invited to tender for this
project and the submission of an expression of interest should not be
taken as a guarantee of inclusion on the shortlist. The Scottish Executive
does not automatically inform contractors who are not invited to tender
for a specified project.
