I suspect that the Fanny stamps were used for secondary reduction of ore,
primary reduction being carried out by hand. The use of stamps at Fanny at
this time is unusual as the other floors at the mine (Maria and Anna Maria)
were using roller crushers. It is possible that, as the Fanny floor was much less important than either the Maria floor and the main floors at Anna Maria, it wasn't considered viable to go to the expense of erecting a roller crusher. It is probable that the Fanny floor was totally superceded by the then (1848) developing Anna Maria floors.

Production figures for the various sections of DGC were listed seperately up until the mid 1850's, but I am not sure if these indicated production was kept seperate at each section of the mine, or if these figures represent the output from each set of dressing floors - which may not have just treated the output of the relevant section of the mine. Any ideas?Alasdair Neill.
