I would be interested to see the pictures too. (contact me off list please)
We (that is me and a few members of Hades Caving Club with a few rougue
South Glos Mines Research Group add ons) are exploring, surveying and
recording an adit North of Bristol, also believed to be from the 17th
century - haven't come across the name Bushell yet. It would be interesting
to compare the styles.
Regards
David

Subject: Re: [MINING-HISTORY] Thomas Bushell - again
Hi Tony,
Many thanks for the references - I have read all of them except Bushell and
Harman of Lundy by Wyndham S Boundy ND, which I was not aware of and have
just purchased a copy. The only problem is that the documentation refers
'dewatering' works by Bushell but is not really precise enough to be able to
determine where exactly he carried out this work.
Here in Combe Martin his adit, which we know he cut in 1635, has been lost
for the last 250 years. (It runs for about 2 miles). I was on a watching
brief a couple of weeks ago and cut into an adit which is almost certainly
by Bushell. I will attached a couple of .jpegs to your home email address
for your interest. I was hoping that others would have known of Bushell's
work in other parts of the country so that I could compare the structure of
the adit here to others.
We have surveyed 300m of this adit which is of 'cut and cover' construction
and a wonderful piece of 17th century engineering.
Kindest regards,
Trevor
