I wonder if others on the list might be enjoying Radio 3's Bach
Christmas as much as I am? Day after day, 24 hours of all his musical
works. I let it drift over me - the vastness of the scale of his writing
had escaped me before now. I will never have Bach's understanding of how
to make music, but I do know that I enjoy experiencing the miracle of
his creations - paying attention at times to each instrument's
contribution, yet experiencing something which is much more magnificent
than the sum of its parts
Similarly, I've been enjoying the debates on this list. I've been
introduced to a wide variety of arguments, some new to me, and others
which I've known and tried to practice for some time. I'm pleased there
isn't a consensus. Like music, the process of taking each other through
different perspectives is much more interesting and useful to me. I
wouldn't want any academic orthodoxy to control the list, as I am not an
academic, and I would become excluded. I wouldn't want any clinical
orthodoxy to control the list, as I am not a clinical psychologist, and
I would become excluded. I'm grateful that others have shared their
knowledge, and I want to learn more, but I hope the list will continue
to be inclusive, to inform the varied opportunities each of us have to
create a little more justice in the world.
Merry Christmas, or Fröhliches Weihnachten as Bach might say
