Subject: Re: Watching Briefs a Useful Form of Archaeological Mitigation?
Hi
Cast your minds back into the murky depths of time (around this time last
year) when a humble Bradford undergraduate asked for some help and opinions
on the controversial topic of archaeological watching briefs.
I would like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who filled out my
questionnaires, responded to my posts and emails and provided (mostly)
helpful comments and advice. I contacted around 80 curators and contractors
in the end, as well as posting on the BRITARCH and HERforums (I also emailed
some developers to get their side of the story but only one replied -
suprise). All your comments and statistics greatly helped towards the
formulation of my dissertation, Are Archaeological Watching Briefs a Useful
and Effective Form of Archaeological Mitigation? (inventive huh?)
I completed my dissertation and degree this year and am now at York
University studying for an MA in Archaeological Heritage Management (in the
vain hope to improve job prospects, as previous posts on britarch have said,
letters behind names is more important than experience ;) )
Sorry it's taken me so long to say thanks but I do appreciate all your help.
If anyone wants to know more about what I found out, let me know and I'll
try and get back in touch (although there may be a delay as my dissertation
is saved in various odd places). There was talk by my tutor of publishing
(ha!) but I think you may all be watching this space for a very long time
(as 1) i'm v busy and 2) i have absolutely no idea where to begin/end)!
Any hoo, cheers and no doubt you'll probably hear from me in a few months
time for my next dissertation!!
