Hi All,
I'm the other Oxford Brookes lawyer on the list :-) Main areas of interest
are how law (mainly UK, but with related interests in European and US law)
deals with religious diversity. Fairly wide ranging, including interests in
religious representation in legislative and decision making processes; how
criminal courts should engage with unusual claims (for instance, I do not
falsely call spirits, I call them and they come so don't convict me of
fraud); regulation of sacred places, including Stonehenge etc. So the
question of how law deals with magical beliefs and practices is one I find
of enduring interest.
My principal methodology is doctrinal legal analysis, which involves a lot
of reading of legal sources and some thinking - said analysis having been
described by one colleague as 'doing Torah' if that helps!
Peter Edge.
