Dear Dr. Kuehn:
my name is Omar Escamilla, I work at the Historical Archive of the
Palace of Mines (formerly the Mining School, founded 1792, and later on
the National Engineering School), who depends of the Engineering Faculty
of the National University.
The documentation that belonged to the Royal Tribunal of Mines, founded
1777, is partly on our archive and partly on the Archivo General de la
Nación. This archive is also useful for the nineteenth century. In the
Palace of Mines, we have all the thesis of the School from 1891 to 2000,
I think there is one or two which deal with Batopilas. Also the
students' practices could be helpful. The problem is that most of the
documentation is not yet catalogued, altough there are some guides for
them. We have also a big library with several mexican mining books from
19th and the first half of the 20th century.
You should try searching the memories of the XXth International
Geological Congress, which was held in Mexico in 1956, specially the
works of Genaro (or Jenaro) González Reyna, who wrote a lot over Chihuahua.
If you have any questions, or anyone in the list have some interest in
the materials held in the archive, please contact me at:
