Thanks to those of you who noticed this! I of course meant 2006. The
full text of last Friday's posting should read:
Offers of papers are warmly invited for the next meeting of the
Conference of University Teachers of German in Great Britain and
Ireland to be held in Leeds from 23 to 25 March 2006. Colleagues should
note that this is a weekend.
The conference next year will be organised around a series of thematic
panels. Panels can take a number of forms and may stretch over one or
several slots during the conference. Each slot will last one-and-a-
quarter hours.
It is expected that the topic of "film and memory" will provide a major
thematic focus at the 2006 meeting and a panel is being organised on this
topic by by David Clarke and Christiane Schönfeld. The panel will focus on
the construction of memory in film and could address issues such as the
cinematic articulation of peculiarly German 'discourses of memory',
historical representation and memorialisation in film, the reinvention of
German cinema in the aftermath of the Third Reich, Vergangenheits-
bewältigung by filmmakers of the 1970s and 80s, or the function of history
in contemporary cinema.
The guest speaker will be the documentary maker J. Burgan (tbc) and there
will be a showing of some of his work.
Colleagues wishing to contribute to the above should send titles of
potential papers (with a short abstract - 250-300 words) to me
([log in to unmask])by 31 December 2005. Alternatively, colleagues
wishing to organise their own panel should contact me with details of
suggested format and participants as soon as possible.
Potential speakers should normally be paid-up members of the CUTG. Please
contact Christiane Schönfeld [log in to unmask] for details
on membership. Speakers are asked to give early notice of any audio-
visual equipment they might need.
