Mr, Mrs, Dear Colleagues,
The Direction of Research, Evaluation and Statistics of the French Ministry
of Social Affairs is organising an international Conference next 19th and
20th of December on "Welfare State Reforms in Continental and Southern
European Countries" in Paris.
The objective of the conference is to make a statement of the reforms
undertaken since the middle of the 90s, at both the level of the
institutions and the concerned population. Countries taken into account are
those of Continental Europe (France, Germany, Belgium, Luxemburg, the
Netherlands and Austria) and of South Europe (Spain, Greece, Italy and
Portugal). The common background and challenges of these reforms will be
examined, considering economic and demographic constraints, as well as the
institutional innovation in order to evaluate the accuracy of path
depedencies and the occurence of changes. In this aim, approaches of
economists, soiologist, politists and national experts of the different
European countries will cross-meet during the conference. Furthermore, some
sessions on a particular field of social protection (pension, Health, care
of the elderly) will be combined to more transversal session (the treatment
of gender equity, spcifities ou southern countries?). Finally a specific
concern will be the focus on the effects of the reforms on the targeted
populations.
You will find enclosed the program of the conference and a register form
that should be sent at the indicated address before Friday, the 9th of
December at the latest.
Translation in english will be provided during the conference!
