A postgraduate colloquium on ubiquitous music and music in everyday life

Call for Papers
In contemporary media-saturated societies it has been claimed that music
permeates many areas of daily life ? that certain types of music are
ubiquitous.
This one-day colloquium organised for postgraduates aims to explore the
implications of music?s apparent ubiquity, examining different music(s),
musical practices and audiences.
Papers relating to this area are invited from music postgraduates and
postgraduates from related disciplines.
Topics might include: radio listening and consumption; soundscapes; space
and place; architecture and aesthetics; acoustics and sound engineering;
music and memory; musical performance; identity; ritual; business and
economics; environmental music; music video; music and television; the
body; Internet music; music technology; fandom and music scenes.
Abstracts of proposed papers should be sent by 31 January 2006 to

Abstracts should be no longer than 200 words and papers presented should be
approximately 20 minutes.
There are limited funds available to assist postgraduate travel expenses.
If you wish to be considered for a travel bursary please indicate this in a
brief statement outlining your reasons why (maximum 50 words).
