Another reason is for the precision of searching - using controlled vocabularies (even clustering the variant forms and not requiring any one form to be the "only" authorized form, you stil get the benefits of controlled searching to a more precise access to the desired entity.
I haven't had a moment to read the draft, but hope to this week... - Barbara Tillett

Dear All
At its Madrid meeting the Agents WG agreed to finalise its draft document on
functional requirements for describing agents (available from here:
http://dublincore.org/groups/agents/agentFRdraft2-2.html). As part of this
work we decided to try to identify the reason(s) DCMI wants to describe
agents. As discussed in the draft document agent metadata may have two main
purposes: disambiguation and/or identification. But there may be other
purposes not identified in the draft.
If you have any views on this question (or any other issue to do with the
agent descriptions) we'd love to hear them. Please send your thoughts,
comments, questions or opinions to either the DC-General OR the DC-Agents
email lists (or both if you are so minded).
Thank you.
