Call for Papers

 

Journal Special Issue on 

Events and Festivals: Current trends and issues 

 

Aims

Acknowledging the multi-factorial and dynamic nature of events and festivals (in sports, arts and celebration) this forthcoming special issue of Managing Leisure seeks to document current academic and practitioner analysis and dialogue in respect of the issues affecting and trends concurrently appearing as a result of events and festivals. 

 

The goal of this special issue is to present theoretical, applied and cross-disciplinary discourse and analysis in respect of (but not limited to) the following subject areas:  

 

Management Tasks and Trends 

§         Events/ Festivals and audience participation and development

§         Events/Festivals and Ethical management

§         Risk and Security Management - issues and application

§         Event/Festival and Quality Management

§         Events and Festivals and Facilities Management

§         Interdisciplinary approaches to managing events and festivals

§         Linking Events/ Festivals and excellence in sport/ art

Issues

§         Community of Commodity?

§         Poverty and Events - Leisure versus Function?

§         Local, regional, national and international perspectives of events/ festivals

§         The urban and rural divide - comparative analysis of event/ festival need

§         Issues and dilemmas for not-for-profit events 

§         The Globalisation and localisation of events/festivals

§         Festival/ Events and Cultural Identity

 

 

Instructions for Submission

Abstracts of no more than 1,100 words should be submitted by email (in English, as Microsoft Word attachments) to the Guest Editor, Martin Robertson (details below) for arrival no later than 23rd January, 2006. 

 

Full articles should normally be 4,000 to 7,000 words in length.  Shorter case studies articles, normally of 1,000 to 2,000 words in length, will also be considered.  Full format details of manuscript format are available at www.tandf.co.uk/journals/authors/rmleauth.asp and must be adhered to. All final submissions will be double-blind reviewed.

 

Key dates:

Abstract receipt by                                             23rd January, 2006

Feedback on abstract by                                    24th February, 2006

Deadline for paper submission                             3rd July, 2006

Review results                                                   8th August, 2006

Final manuscript                                                28th September 2006
