LONDON CLIMATE MARCH Saturday 3 December 2005
An important message to all Green Party members, their family & friends ...
From Jean Lambert MEP:
"If you take one public action this year, it should be joining the demonstration against climate change on 3rd December. The Green Party has been leading on this issue politically and we must be the leading presence on the march, just as we must continue to be the leading presence in the political debate. As with the opposition to the invasion of Iraq, we must be on the streets and we must have a strong, visible presence. So join us on Saturday 3 December!"
From Caroline Lucas MEP:
"Climate change is widely recognised - even by the Pentagon - to be the greatest single threat facing human civilisation as we know it, and we know what to do about it: reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2050.
"But despite his rhetorical claims to be exercising global leadership on climate change, Tony Blair has presided over a UK with rising CO2 emissions, a UK which has failed to fully implement even agreed EU-wide measures on emissions reduction - and worst of all, a UK that is questioning it's commitment to binding international agreements on reducing emissions."
"The Green Party must keep up the pressure on Tony Blair to close the gap between his rhetoric and his actions by backing a tough, binding treaty to replace the Kyoto Protocol when it expires in 2012."
"That's why the climate march on 3rd December is so important - and why we need a strong contingent of Green Party members at the rally."

WHAT YOU CAN DO...
On 3rd December, the Campaign Against Climate Change is expecting thousands of people to attend the biggest climate march this country has ever seen. The London march and rally is just one of 26 demonstrations in countries around the world (see www.campaigncc.org) planned to coincide with the Montreal climate talks on a successor to the Kyoto treaty.
The rally will be addressed by Caroline Lucas MEP [Green], Guardian columnist George Monbiot, Michael Meacher MP [Lab], Norman Baker MP [Lib Dem], Jean Lambert MEP [Green], Tony Juniper [FOE] and others.
This march will be the biggest opportunity that our Party has had for years to make our presence felt and get our positive policies to avert climate disaster noticed. We urge you to turn out and support the march.

Events such as these attract all ages from toddlers to OAPs plus, in many cases, the family dog and the camaraderie that develops between marchers is tremendous.
This will be a day to remember.
Please let me know that you're coming/not able to join us.
Many thanks and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the big day.
With best wishes
Mel
