Chris
I thought you might like to see my response, written with an eye to the
kind of sound-bite imagery that the media loves...
well done for agreeing to coordinate the anti-nuclear power book.... I'm
not an expert but could perhaps help with some of the graphic design
work (diagrams, maps, charts etc).
best wishes

Subject: Nuclear Power - the crack cocaine of energy addiction
Thanks for your balanced piece on the prospects for nuclear power - I
thought that Andrew Simms' piece was especially good compared to the
lacklustre arguments put forward by Sir Bernard Ingham . As the title of
my email suggests, it is our addiction to energy that is the real
problem and nuclear power simply feeds our current wasteful habit. The
first priority must be to reduce demand through increased insulation of
homes and workplaces, more efficient technologies and local
micro-generation - and simple measures like turning down the themostat
and (heresy) adopting a 60 mph speed limit. As Andrew Simms pointed out,
the uranium ore will run out within a few decades (less if other nations
- like Iran - also follow the nuclear route), so if we don't start
adapting now then we'll really start to go 'cold turkey' over energy.
