“Between Peterborough and Pentecost”:
Nonsense Literature across Space and Time
An international and interdisciplinary conference organised by the
Humanities Research Centre of the University of Warwick
University of Warwick
12-13 May 2006
CALL FOR PAPERS
Twenty-minute papers are sought on any aspect of nonsense literature, with
no geographical or chronological restrictions. We welcome papers focusing
on specific texts, as well as papers discussing more general issues, such
as the formal aspects of nonsense literature, or its connection with other
literary forms, or its philosophical or socio-historical premisses. The aim
is that of exploring the boundaries and mechanisms of nonsense (and
perhaps, through those, saying something about the mechanisms of poetry and
literature in general) by combining a theoretical approach with an
ostensive method.
Keynote speakers include Professors Barbara C. Bowen, Jean-Jacques
Lecercle, and Michelangelo Zaccarello.
The preferred language of communication throughout is English, but papers
in French, German, Italian, or Spanish may also be considered (please
specify if you wish to offer a paper in one of these languages).
Proposals in the form of 150-word abstracts should be sent, preferably as e-
mail attachments, to the conference organisers, Dr Carlo Caruso
([log in to unmask]) and Dr Elisabetta Tarantino
([log in to unmask]), to arrive by 7 January 2006. Please
include a one-page CV, giving details of your professional affiliation,
address, contact telephone number and e-mail address, together with a list
of recent publications.
