This sounds as though the new ip address for the new UKNEQAS server has
not propagated through all the DNS servers. Ask IT which DNS they use as
it needs its records updating. This however should usually be done
automatically and may just be a matter of time for the changes have been
propagated fully.

In the mean time is it possible to edit the pages using the IP address
of the new server?

Cheers

Subject: web hosting conundrum

Hi chaps

I have been struggling with a web hosting problem for some weeks now
which has me completely baffled!

Because of persistent FrontPage extension problems I arranged to move
the UK NEQAS website from one of Active 24's (previously VI) oldest
servers to one of their new ones.

I began editing some pages from work and everything seemed fine, but I
quickly discovered that whereas I was seeing the changes at work, they
weren't visible when I logged on from home (despite clearing the cache
and refreshing), also I couldn't get FrontPage access from home.

I have engaged in a long game of postal chess with the host, who
persistently blame me for uploading the site wrongly, but they haven't
explained what is happening.

Last night, however, they told me how to ping the UK NEQAS URL from home
and work. This revealed that from home (and the outside world) the
returned IP address is the correct one for the new server where the UK
NEQAS site should be. From work, however, it tries to ping a different
IP address and times out.

Clearly I am editing a copy of the UK NEQAS sebsite sitting on another
server when I am at work, but this is not visible to the outside world.

The key page is the one for the ACBWM meeting which is still the old
version created on 13th October. When I look from work I see the new
version updated on the 31st.

Can anyone explain what is going on here and how I can point my work
computer to the new server?

Thanks

J
